Genesis

Genesis, written by Nicolette Fuller, is a dystopian science fiction novel set after the collapse of human civilization. Following Hokura, audiences uncover lies and how the story’s themes of control and identity seem to create a peaceful world of new beginnings, or so they think.

This visual system interprets Hokura’s journey throughout the novel through transformation and structure within the watchful eyes of the city’s walls. By utilizing distorted typography to suggest the mutation and transformation process that happens in the novel, structured grids of surveillance cameras enforcing the engineered world the main characters live in, the two covers explain the novel through visual storytelling. Whereas inside, a structured grid is used to stabilize the audience as they read the invigorating story. Together, these elements create a system that balances clarity within the typographical grid used and visually reinforces the dystopian themes of the novel.
